Choose The Right Golf Swing Trainer For Your Game

By: Trent

There is a golf swing trainer for for all your golf needs these days! Want a longer drive? They have one? Need to fix your slice...no problem. Want to improve your golf swing speed...here it is!

Don't get caught in the trap of buying training aids for every occasion. I know my garage has a few, but I called a BIG "timeout" on purchase of every golf infomercial swing trainer. Those commercials are done so well...they have you pulling out your wallet 5 minutes into it.

Pick The Swing Trainer For Your Fault

I know this sounds like a "no-brainer", but listen up! Make sure whatever golf trainer you pick, it really focuses on your swing fault. There are many trainers that say they can cure everything under the sun. Don't do it! Do your research and get one that solves "your problem.

Try Before You Buy

Yes...you can actually give some of these golf swing trainers a try before you buy. Many of the golf stores have returns. These are used training aids. Take it into one of those hitting bays and use it, then hit some balls. Even though you can't see ball flight, you can get an idea of its effectiveness right there on the spot.

Shop Around

Once you've picked the right one, get on the net and do some comparison shopping. You'll be amazed at how many sites sell it quite a bit cheaper than your local store. Just make sure with shipping added, it's a better deal than just driving down and buying it locally.

Use It

Now you've done your research...bought your new golf swing trainer...and have it in your possession. Use it regularly! Don't use it once and put it away! Use it until your swing fault is fixed. This could take many days or months to accomplish, but don't waste your money by using it once or twice and putting it in your "golf garage!"

Get Behind. Theres no leverage in the golf swing if youre ahead of the ball. Good players move away from the target slightly in the backswing and dont pass the ball until after impact.
Keep yourself in the cooling shade with a great golf umbrella.

Free Turn-The lower body should serve to support the movement of the upper body by leading the backswing. Flexed and relaxed, the legs are able to be moved by the rotation of the upper body, in no way inhibiting the turn. While the legs dont initiate the backswing, they contribute to the wind up of the body against the ground. A good thought is to imagine the legs as braces that connect you to the ground.

A proper divot is taken just beyond impact, but it should be shallow. Shallow divots allow you to hit your clubs consistent distances, while deep ones don't.

Finding Your Putters Sweet Spot

By: Jeff Austin

The sweet spot is the particular spot that every golf club has, where it hits with pure impact. The shot feels good, looks good and gives the best results.

The sweet spot is a small spot around your clubs center of gravity, when you hit a ball with the sweet spot it goes exactly where you want it to go because the head doesnt move out of alignment with the target.

Statistics show that if you miss the sweet spot by as little as a quarter of an inch you will miss every putt by at least eight feet, the sweet spot is that important to your ability to putt.

On most putters the sweet spot is marked by a line or arrow that has been cut into the topline or the part of the putter you see when you are addressing the ball.

It is not uncommon for this factory mark to be off by a little, so find the sweet spot for yourself and mark it properly.

To find the sweet spot on your putter, hold the putter lightly out in front of you by the thumb and forefinger and allow it to swing easily, hold it in the same position it would be in if you were putting, now tilt the shaft until the bottom of the putter is parallel to the ground.

Using the eraser end of a pencil or some other pointed object, gently tap the putterface until you find the one spot that causes the head to swing back and forth without any twisting of the face, no wobbling and with little or no vibration.

You have found your putters sweet spot; mark it well for reference during play. Making a grove in the top of the putter is one way to mark it; you may want to fill the groove with white paint so it is easier to see.

There are a number of possible reasons for hitting behind the ball. If you are not shifting your weight properly on the downswing, from the back leg to the front leg, your swing will bottom out before the club gets to the ball. Also, if you do not keep your head steady, you do not know where your swing will bottom out. Also, if you do not keep your leading arm reasonably straight, the arc of your swing will vary, so you can improve your consistency by focusing on these 3 areas.

Golf Putting Tips to Take 3-4 Strokes Off Your Score

By Don Halloran

For Golf Putting Tips

Many golfers throughout the world do not concentrate on improving their putting by looking for golf putting tips because they think it is such a minor portion of the game of golf. I believe that they are sadly mistaken. Just think of the par threes. The putter on the par threes is usually more than fifty percent of the strokes made. If someone shoots an 82 then usually the amount of putts are 32 or 33, which is more than 40% of the strokes for the round of golf. It only makes sense that this may be one of the easiest ways to shave 3 or 4 strokes off of your golf score just by practicing a few golf putting tips.

Many golfers think that just by changing putters or trying harder will improve their putting and sometimes it does. Several golf putting tips that have helped me putt better have been:

1-Prepare on the practice green to get extremely confident by sinking at least 2 or 3 consecutive 6-7 foot putts.

2-Practice getting the right distance especially for long putts by visualizing the strength needed to roll the putt by hand and duplicating that strength into the putter head.

3-On longer putts it might be better to think of having to putt to a bucket and end up close to the hole.

4-Make sure you are very comfortable with your current putter.

5-One of the most important parts of the putting stroke is the few inches before and after hitting the ball.

There are many other golf putting tips in magazines and on line golf tips that are available for improving your putting. Keep trying them until you find some that work consistently for you and go for it. This could be the easiest way to shave a few strokes off your score.

If you want to enjoy and play golf better, you must conquer the putting side of golf.

Many swing faults occur from an improper setup. This can cause unnecessary adjustments during the swing. Taking care to position the ball, feet, hips and shoulders properly ensures building a good swing foundation. Testing has shown golfers with open stances show no more tendency to slice than golfers with closed stances. The open stance may give the golfers a little more opportunity to slice, because it allows a little more freedom in the downswing and follow-though. The square stance is used by most successful golfers. Beginners should start with a square stance. As you advance, you can experiment with the advantages of other stances. Avoid extreme stances. Experiment to find the stance that works best for you. Take care to set up consistently on all normal shots.

There's no substitute for a good golf swing. But brand new golfers can make it easier on themselves by choosing clubs that are geared to higher-handicappers (also known as "game improvement clubs"). Choose irons that are perimeter weighted and cavity-backed. Look at "hybrid" sets, where the long irons (3-, 4- and sometimes 5-irons) are replaced by utility club

More Golf Stance Tips

By: Robert Partain

Many newer golfers (and a few older ones, too) have a tendency to misalign themselves when they take their stance. Normally, what they will do is aim way right of the target and they do this for a reason. Players who are misaligned from the get go and aim right are usually players who try to swing with their arms. When they do this the ball will almost always take off to the left. So what they are doing with this "right side" target trick is trying to fix a problem before it even happens!

In theory, this shouldn't be a problem...but this is not theory, it's golf. When an "arm swinger" forces his ball back on the fairway by overcompensating his alignment, he thinks he's doing himself a favor. But on those occasions when he actually makes a good, solid full body swing, his ball zips off into the trees on the right or into a right side bunker and he gets mad, and what's worse is that by using this misaligning method he's never going to reach his full potential as a golfer.

These players need to work on the basics of their swing, using their body as a whole and not just their arms. But they also need to know what their alignment is.

So how can you (or anyone else for that matter) see what your alignment is to the target?

Well, here's a simple and very effective tip to determine what your target alignment really is.

Take a stance (your usual stance), aim at a target that you would hit at, and then lay a club down on the ground from toe to toe. Now step back about 8 or 10 paces behind the ball and club that you laid down and sight down the club. Sighting down this club will reveal your alignment.

If the club is a bit left of the target, then you're fine. But if it's to the right of the target, you are out of alingment. Simple but effective.

If you discover that you are out of alignment (that the club on the ground is pointing to the right of the target) then you need to work on squaring up your stance.

Being square to the target is one of the most important tips in golf. Every ball you hit will be effected by this stance--either in a good way or (if you're in a misaligned stance) a bad way. It really is that simple.

Now when you are certain that you are in a square stance, hit a few balls. If the ball goes way left of the target, you know you are pulling it by trying to use too much of your arms. If the ball goes way right, you know you are allowing your body to slide too much through impact.

By being in a square stance and evaluating a few practice shots, you can determine a lot about your swing and those areas that you need to work on.

Low-Cost Alternatives
If golf sounds like a great idea, the sticking point to getting started can all too often be cost. After all, you need clubs, balls, tees, and in the case of many clubs a strict dress code must be adhered to that makes entry into the sport appear prohibitive. However, it is essential that such enthusiasm should be nurtured by means of the opportunities afforded by low-cost alternatives. So why not start out by identifying the location of the local driving range, or a municipal course run by the council that will be relatively cheap in terms both of green fees and the hire of clubs.

The driver is now a specialty club, much like a putter. Our set-up, ball position everything is different from any other club in the bag. You shouldn't be hitting the ball at the bottom or apex of the golf swing like a fairway wood. The ball should be struck past this point, on the upswing. This will lead to a higher launch angle and lower spin rate which is how we are going to hit the ball farther than we ever have before.
